Czech TV, the national public broadcaster of the Czech Republic, has chosen Sony’s Sonaps solution following a five-year partner search to update its ageing hardware system and bring its standard definition news production operation up-to-date with new technology, including HD, and workflows.
Czechoslovak Television began broadcasting in 1953. Thirty-nine years later, Czech Television was established, by law as the only public television broadcaster in the Czech Republic. Today it broadcasts on six nationwide channels and reaches approximately 30% of TV viewers daily. Czech Television operates in three studios in Prague, Brno and Ostrava. Based on the number of hours of content produced per year, Czech Television is a leading producer of original television programming in Europe and serves as the largest film co-producer in the Czech Republic.
A key challenge for Czech TV was ease of integration. It was vital the solutions implemented would integrate with its existing newsroom system Octopus, deliver production output through the Aveco playout system and seamlessly share content across all regions of the operation.
Czech TV also needed to increase its content output while reducing costs, which meant implementing a content creation and publishing solution that would meet its fixed budget without compromising its business needs or goals.
State-of-the-art, streamlined, future-proofed
Like the many other broadcast organisations that have adopted Sony solutions, Czech TV chose Sonaps after a careful evaluation of its state-of-the-art capabilities. Sonaps is a fully managed environment for planning, ingest, production and publishing of A/V content. Built on the vast experience Sony has gained in the news broadcast and IT markets, Sonaps delivers high-end performance and functionality that can seamlessly integrate into a client’s existing infrastructure and bring streamlined, user-friendly and efficient workflows to the whole operation.
This means critical path workflows with the Octopus newsroom system and Aveco playout automation remain unchanged, and enable an easy transition to the new system, which minimises risk to the On Air operation. From creative flows and assignment planning to content linking and order management, production and editorial staff alike benefit from the improved high-end workflow.
Sonaps also provides Czech TV with the ability to share content throughout its main broadcasting sites in Prague, Brno and Ostrava. Removing the need to copy or replicate files enables enhanced production capabilities for all users and defines an optimized workflow across the whole operation.
Sony’s Sonaps – the right choice
